Cherry Bed
This queen size bed is built from cherry — a wood chosen as much for its character as its beauty. The legs at the foot of the bed feature a castle joint, a detail that brings both visual interest and genuine structural strength to the piece. The bed slats are milled from cypress, each one fitted to a corresponding pin on the interior of the bed rails for a clean, secure fit. No tools are required for assembly.
The headboard panel is joined to each leg with a single long floating mortise-and-tenon. The top of the tenon is pinned and glued in place, while the middle and lower portions are pinned through elongated holes to allow for seasonal wood movement.
The piece was finished with three coats of Osmo Polyx satin hard-wax oil, which brings out the natural warmth of the wood while providing a durable, low-sheen surface that should serve well for years to come.
