Curio Cabinet
This cherry curio cabinet exhibits the natural warmth and depth of the wood, allowing its rich tones to shine through. The cabinet is equipped with tempered glass shelves, offering both durability and a clean, transparent view of the objects displayed within. Its design creates a refined space to highlight collectibles.
After the initial plans were drafted, a scaled-down prototype was built using pine. Once all the design elements were finalized, work began on the full-size cabinet. After the full size cabinet was completed I then refined the joinery on the prototype, finished it with amber shellac, and installed the glass.
The full-size cabinet is made of solid cherry wood, except for the cherry plywood incorporated into the top and base. The entire front of the cabinet slides to the left on tracks which are hidden from view when closed. An LED light with a dimmer switch provides ample illumination to showcase collectibles, whether during the day or at night. A false top was crafted to conceal the light’s wiring, ensuring that it remains unseen from above, such as from the stairs.
The cabinet was dyed to achieve the desired color, then finished with several coats of blond shellac followed by furniture wax.
